about

CLOSER TO THE SUN is the seventh compilation of music recorded, mixed and mastered at Ecstattic Studio. Representing some of the first releases since the studio moved locationst, the compilation showcases the expansive sound of the new, significantly larger space.

Enlisting the help of many friends of the studio new and old, this collection presents the listener with a fresh look at the studio as well as some of the city's best musicians: from the debuts of Blood Sculpture and No Kim (two projects branching out from the sadly defunct Murder Shoes), Misty (a new, secret project from two well-known local "Mega Mystery Babes" whose identities can't be currently revealed) and Another Heaven (whose track, recorded live in the studio, is the first released recording of the band's live, now permanent, lineup) to a solo reimagining of an old Ego Death song by Jeremy of Double Grave (the band's current moniker), two amazing slices of RnB/Soul from upstarts Backpackers and Symptones, as well as rare recorded transmissions from psych weirdos DIIE and Daylily, the ever-shapeshifting project that is known as Go for Retro - for now. For the first time, almost all of these tracks were recorded specifically for the compilation, a massive undertaking that effectively christened the new space.

Also included is a sampling of the last projects finished at the old studio space, including new and/or unreleased music by metal masters Livid and Nightosaur, noise-punk super-group Karate Break (featuring members of Ecstattic alums Swimsuit Area and Black Sam Malone) and a previously released but unbelievably rad political anthem from Gramma's Boyfriend.

CLOSER TO THE SUN harnesses the power of change and the nervous energy of fluctuation to present something that is infused with creative power and hope for the future. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as all of us enjoyed making it.
